Choosing Extracts

With all the different varieties of cannabis extract these days, how do I know which kind will work for my recipe? The answer is all of them! Certain types of extract, however, are better suited for certain recipes. On this page we will breakdown why you might choose one type of extract over another.

THC Distillate

The 'holy grail 'of all extracts and used widely by the cannabis edible industry to create infused products. THC Distillate is 95% THC or more and therefore has very little, if any terpenes present to impart cannabis aroma or flavor to your end product.

QuickWeed Creations recommends using THC Distillate whenever possible for all edible, beverage, and tincture products for the highest quality finished product and most consistent dosing between batches. In addition, THC Distillate can be added straight to your Creations when mixing and does not have to be decarbed before using which makes it the quickest extract to use.

The potential downside of using THC Distillate is the cost. Due to its high purity, distillate is one of the most expensive types of extract on the market. However, any other less expensive extract can be used and will make a fantastic creation. See other extracts below:

Rosin, BHO, RSO, PHO, Shatter, Honey oil, budder, crumble, ect.

These types of extracts are somewhat lower in THC % than distillate, but can easily be incorporated into your QuickWeed Creations with a little extra effort. Depending on the THC and THCa % of your extract, you may want to decarb your extract to convert the THCa into THC. The process for decarbing is very straightforward, see our page on Preparing Your Extracts for the simple four step process.

Since these extracts are often made with the goal of preserving the aroma and flavor of the plant, note that some of those smells and tastes will transfer to your QuickWeed Creations.

Dry Sift, Kief & Bubble Hash

This category of dry, powdery, crumbly extracts are significantly lower in potency compared to their solvent based extract counterparts. However, they may still be incorporated into your QuickWeed Creations with a little extra effort and possible compromise in end product texture and flavor.

Since these types of extracts are made through mechanical separation of trichome heads from leaves and buds, there will always be small particles of plant material present in the extract. Those gritty plant particles will end up in your creations unless you take an additional step to strain your infusion before you finish.

You also must decarb your extract before you start. See our page on Preparing Your Extracts for the simple four step process.
